Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Testing (HAST)

Although Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) sounds similar to Accelerated Life Testing (ALT), it is significantly different. While ALT is focused on trying to predict reliability, HALT focuses on identifying what the dominant failure mechanisms will be. Highly Accelerate Stress Testing (HAST) has a similar focus to HALT.

HALT and HAST assist design teams in producing more reliable products or systems. HALT or HAST can be conducted on a prototype to provide a design team with a list of prioritized failure mechanisms that if eliminated through redesign could have dramatic impact on reliability. Testing is typically conducted in specific environments, such as those provided by HALT Chambers. Australia is home to a limited number of facilities that can provide such environments, but you may also conduct your own HALT or HAST on-site.

Acuitas can help you or your design team instigate a HALT or HAST regime to help you design a robustly reliable product. We can help you engage with specialist HALT technicians, or develop your own in-house HALT regime
